Civil Engineering Technologist

As a Civil Engineering Technologist at Aptus, you will be involved in all phases of project delivery — from preliminary and conceptual design through detailed design and construction. You will work closely with professional engineers and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of roadway, infrastructure, and land development projects.

This role can offer valuable field experience, including construction surveying and inspection using modern survey equipment and software or interested candidates.

This is a Red Deer–based position, with work primarily out of our Red Deer office. Limited remote work may be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of detailed design and drawing production using current civil engineering design software

  • Assist with project schedules and ensure deadlines are met

  • Communicate with project leaders, clients, contractors, municipalities, and approving authorities

  • Support engineering staff with design, drawing production, and construction specifications

  • Work closely with professional engineers on a variety of civil engineering projects

  • Ensure quality control of design and drawing outputs

  • Perform design tasks with increasing independence and professional judgment

  • Complete construction and design-related surveying

  • Participate in construction inspection activities

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D (required)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office (required)

  • Graduate of an accredited Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology program (required)

  • Certified or eligible for certification with ASET

  • Detail-oriented with strong pride in workmanship

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong time-management skills and ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively

  • Familiarity with Trimble or Hemisphere survey equipment and surveying practices (asset)

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with access to a vehicle (preferred)

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work in Alberta (required)

While training is available, candidates must have a solid working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.  Familiarity with survey equipment and surveying principles is an asset.

Experience is an asset, however all experience levels — including new graduates — will be considered.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position (minimum 40 hours per week, two-week pay period)

  • Monday to Friday, day shift

  • 8-hour shifts

  • Occasional weekends as required

  • Be home every night
