Senior Technologist

Aptus Engineering Ltd. is a civil engineering consulting firm specializing in Project Management, Infrastructure Rehabilitation, Transportation Engineering, Contract Management, Water Resources Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Land Development Engineering, Contract Management, and Surveying. This Red Deer based company has been providing Civil Engineering Consulting services for clients all over Western Canada for over 35 yrs.

Aptus Engineering Ltd. is looking to hire highly capable Civil Engineering Technologists to join our team. Successful candidates should have experience in Civil Engineering design and can expect to be involved in all aspects of a wide range of roadway, infrastructure, and land development type of projects. You will be joining our engineering design team to translate high level conceptual designs from the preliminary stages, through to detailed design and all the way to the construction phase for a wide variety of projects using the latest design software.

Specifically, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Involved in all aspects of detailed design and design drawing tasks using the latest Civil Engineering Design software.

  • Assistant Project Managers duties.

  • Assisting with project timelines and ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Communicating with project leaders.

  • Deal with contractors, clients, municipalities, and approving authorities on a variety of civil engineering projects.

  • Support engineering personnel in field with design, drawing production and/or construction specifications.

  • Work closely with professional engineers to complete a variety of design projects.

  • Ensuring quality control of your design production work.

  • Performing a variety of engineering projects with independent judgment.

  • Mentoring and assisting with training of junior technologist.

This position is for a Red Deer based company with the expectation that successful candidates will work out of the Red Deer office with limited remote work available.

Only candidates who have graduated from an accredited Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology program with a diploma or certification will be considered. Candidates should have all required paperwork in place to be able to work in Alberta.

We are looking for the following skills, strengths, and interests:

  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering design experience is preferred.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (required).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other MS Office software (required).

  • Proficiency with drafting skills and knowledge of drawing set-up and production.

  • Detail orientated, taking immense pride in your work, in projects both large and small.

  • Effective communication and writing abilities.

  • Good time management skills, the ability to take direction and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strong people skills with the ability to work with others.

  • Experience with civil engineering related work.

  • Experience with sanitary modelling, storm water modeling and management, water modelling, traffic analysis and modelling is an asset but not a requirement.

  • Experience with project/client management and/or construction management is an asset but not a requirement.

  • Experience with Civil Engineering contract administration, construction management and construction inspection are an asset but not a requirement.

  • Committed to ongoing personal and professional development.

  • Certification or eligible for certification with ASET.

  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with an available vehicle is preferred.

  • Salary is paid on an hourly basis. Aptus offers competitive hourly wages which will be based on the candidates training and experience.

  • Overtime pay. Overtime can be paid out or banked depending on the preference of the employee. Banked hours can be used as additional time off during off peak construction periods or to offset hours during off peak times.
